10/02/00-10/08/00
-
First fall capture on
10/07 for Orange-crowned Warbler
(two banded), a very uncommon migrant at Powdermill
-
Twelve species of wood warblers
banded 10/07, including a very late Canada
Warbler and the largest daily tally (23) of
Palm
Warblers for this station since 1967 (including
one eastern race, "Yellow" Palm Warbler,
rare west of the Appalachians)
-
Out of 21 White-throated
Sparrows banded on 10/06, one adult bird was
a particularly bright example of the orange-lored variant (a very rare
plumage variation that occurs at a rate of about 1 per 1,000 in this species
at Powdermill, based on nearly 16,000 bandings)--it is pictured below next
to an otherwise similar bird exhibiting the normal yellow lores
