Studying Nocturnal Songbird Migration at Powdermill
Powdermill is pleased to announce its cooperation with New Jersey Audubon Society's Cape May Bird Observatory in identifying important stopover areas and critical habitats for migrating songbirds in Pennsylvania.  Part of this project, entitled Oases Along the Flyway, involves recording calls made by birds during nocturnal migration.  Calls are then compared to known birds' spectrograms to assess temporal and spatial patterns and the relative abundance of species passing by several sites in Pennsylvania, including Powdermill.

From left to right Dr. David Mizrahi, Vice-president for Research NJ Audubon, Vince Elia, Research Associate, NJ Audubon, and Dr. David Smith, Director, Powdermill Nature Reserve, discuss the project at the  monitoring site on Powdermill.
